Job summary

Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson, a 100% employee-owned consulting firm, seeks a Traffic Engineer to design traffic signals and roadway lighting, perform ITS work, and coordinate projects with clients across the southeastern US.

The role requires a ABET-accredited degree, 5–10 years of experience, and a PE license for civil candidates (EIT with licensure path acceptable). Proficiency in design software, a valid driver’s license, and strong communication are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechanical, systems, or civil engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• 5–10 years’ experience in the relevant discipline.
• Active PE license for civil candidates or EIT with plan to obtain NC/SC PE within 6 months.
• Current US driver’s license and ability to drive.
• Proficiency in discipline-specific design software and client communication.

Responsibilities

• Traffic signal and roadway lighting design, including CAD and field work.
• ITS, signal interconnection, and emerging traffic technologies design.
• Coordinate with clients and other disciplines; prepare meeting minutes.
• Develop or review project cost estimates and contract plans.
• Quality reviews and technical guidance within the Traffic Design team.
