Job summary

Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson (JMT) is seeking a Traffic Engineer to design traffic signals, roadway lighting, ITS interconnection and related systems. The role blends civil, electrical and systems engineering principles and requires coordinating with clients and other disciplines across projects.

You will prepare plans, cost estimates and contract documents, review survey data and provide technical oversight within the department.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechanical, systems, or civil engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• 5–10 years of experience in the specialized discipline.
• Active PE license (civil candidates preferred).
• Active EIT is acceptable if able to obtain NC/SC PE within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Traffic signal and roadway lighting design, including CAD and field work.
• ITS, signal interconnection, and emerging traffic technology design.
• Signal timing at a corridor level with field-based fine tuning.
• Prepare and compile contract plans, specifications and estimates.
• Coordinate with other disciplines and understand their fit in projects.
• Quality review of project design per the Project Management Plan.
