Job summary

Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson, Inc. is seeking a Traffic Engineer who will design traffic signals, roadway lighting, and ITS systems. You will analyze data, prepare estimates, and coordinate with multiple disciplines to deliver projects for public agencies and private clients.

Field work and client meetings are common, with professional licensure progressing as required. The role requires a degree from an ABET-accredited program, 5–10 years in a specialized discipline, and eligibility for PE

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechanical, systems, or civil engineering from ABET program.
• Active PE license required for civil candidates; non-civil candidates may have EIT with license goal.
• Strong ability to communicate clearly with clients across the southeastern US.
• Must hold valid US driver’s license and pass Motor Vehicle screening.

Responsibilities

• Traffic signal and roadway lighting design, including CAD and field work.
• ITS, signal interconnection, and emerging traffic tech design.
• Signal timing at a corridor level with field-based tuning.
• Support of traffic safety projects and Smart Mobility initiatives.
• Signal cabinet wiring and signal controller programming.
• Analyze survey data to plan projects and tasks.
• Perform design computations and use design software/tools.
• Develop or review construction cost estimates.
• Prepare and compile contract plans, specs, and estimates.
• Attend meetings with clients and take minutes.
• Coordinate with other disciplines and fit into the project design.
• Quality reviews of project design per PM Plan.
• Provide technical oversight and guidance to Traffic Design Engineers.

Education

ABET-accredited engineering degree

Professional Engineer (PE) license

EIT certification (acceptable for non-civil candidates)
