Job summary

Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson seeks a traffic engineer to design traffic signals, roadway lighting, and ITS systems within Southeast projects, applying general engineering principles with limited supervision. A mix of electrical, civil, and systems engineering expertise is essential.

The role includes design calculations, cost estimation, client meetings, and cross‑discipline coordination. PE license is preferred; EIT acceptable if you can obtain NC/SC licensure within 6 months.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechanical, systems, or civil engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• 5–10 years’ experience in the related discipline.
• Active PE license (civil candidates).
• Active EIT acceptable if ability to obtain NC/SC PE within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Traffic signal and roadway lighting design, CAD and field work.
• ITS, signal interconnection, and emerging traffic technology design.
• Signal timing at a corridor level and field-based tuning.
• Support of traffic safety projects and other Smart Mobility projects.
• Coordinate with other disciplines and ensure alignment with project goals.
• Prepare and review construction cost estimates and contract plans/specifications.
