Job summary

The Iowa Department of Inspections, Appeals, and Licensing (DIAL) is seeking temporary licensing specialists for our Licensing Division at the Des Moines central office near Valley Junction. The roles focus on accurate licensing operations and high-quality customer service.

You will communicate with applicants, review and process licensure, enter records in AIS, and assist with board meetings. This is a temporary, non-merit position located in Des Moines, Iowa.

Qualifications

• Two years of full-time work experience in general office, clerical, data entry/processing, or related work.
• Equivalency: two years of education and/or full-time experience as described in number one.
• Sixteen years?—minimum durations described: six months of full-time work in state executive branch as Administrative Support Assistant 2 or eighteen months as Administrative Support Assistant 1.

Responsibilities

• Communicate with applicants by phone, email, and written correspondence to provide guidance on licensure requirements.
• Review licensure applications to ensure completeness, accuracy, and compliance with administrative rules.
• Enter and maintain records in electronic licensing systems and databases.
• Process licensure fees, issue licenses and certificates, and handle confidential documentation.
• Advise applicants on procedures, identify errors or missing information, and draft correspondence as needed.
• Respond to a high volume of inquiries from individuals, schools, and businesses regarding licensure, relocation, or continuing education requirements.
• Provide assistance with license verification, public records requests, and board meetings when requested.
• Collaborate with team members and other staff to support smooth licensing operations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
