Job summary

The Iowa Department of Inspections, Appeals, & Licensing (DIAL) seeks a Unit Manager for the Adult & Special Services Unit within the Health Bureau in Des Moines, IA. This leadership role oversees certification and licensure across programs, ensures compliance with federal/state standards, and trains staff in certification activities.

The position requires managing 16 employees, coordinating state and federal surveys, analyzing data, and delivering briefings to leadership and partners.

Qualifications

• Graduation from a four-year college and professional licensure in a health field (pharmacist, dietitian, or nurse).
• Four years of full-time administrative, consultative, or technical experience in health care facilities.
• Substitutions of graduate coursework for experience are allowed per policy (up to 2 years).
• State executive branch experience as Health Facilities Officer 1 is acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate state and federal survey processes for certification, complaint, and inspection activities.
• Lead recruitment, onboarding, and training of staff in investigative methods and performance management.
• Maintain survey databases and deliver reports to leadership, legislators, federal partners, and the public.
• Oversee complaint triage and investigations with proper evidence gathering.
