Job summary

Carle Health is seeking a skilled Surgical Tech to assist surgeons, prep sterile fields, and support intraoperative care. You will scrub on complex procedures and mentor RNs and other techs as needed. This role requires strong equipment handling, adaptability, and a calm, proactive approach to emergencies.

Qualifications

• BLS certification required within 30 days of hire (AHA).
• Education: Surgical Technology certificate or degree completed.
• Strong ability to scrub, assist, and mentor others in the OR.

Responsibilities

• Prepare for surgeon-specific procedures with timely, accurate setup.
• Ensure instruments, equipment, and sutures are complete and functional.
• Set up sterile field and scrub in prior to patient entry.
• Assist in running Mayo and back table setup for cases.
• Maintain ready availability of necessary items and resources.
• Collaborate with surgeon and team to anticipate case needs.
• Precept and mentor surgical techs and RNs during procedures.
• Perform first scrub, first assist, and second scrub roles as needed.
• Close cases with dressing application, transfer, and turnover.
• Train RNs and students in scrub techniques across cases.
• Plan for intra-operative events and respond to changes promptly.
• Maintain calm, confident, and proactive behavior during procedures.
• Support on-call shifts and after-hours coverage as required.
• Communicate effectively to ensure instrument and equipment readiness.
