Job summary

Texas Orthopedics, a division of OrthoLonestar, is seeking a medical assistant to coordinate care outside the clinic, ensuring concierge service while maintaining patient safety and quality standards. You will manage calls, schedule surgeries and imaging, complete pre-op steps, and assist in obtaining authorizations and patient education.

The role emphasizes documenting in EMR, verifying eligibility, and supporting physicians with post-visit coordination.

Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or GED.
• Two years as a medical assistant in hospital, home health, or office, orthopedics preferred.
• Two years of surgery scheduling preferred.
• Current Medical Assistant certification (CMA) preferred.
• Knowledge of computer systems and applications.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Pharmaceutical knowledge.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Receive, document, and handle incoming calls.
• Schedule surgeries, MRI/CT, Myelograms, Epidurals, etc., plus pre-op and PT appointments.
• Complete surgery checklist with physician schedules.
• Submit medical records and obtain pre-authorization as needed.
• Obtain provider clearance before initiating insurance requests.
• Document authorization numbers and dates in EMR.
• Assist with prior-authorization and estimate patient cost.
• Issue prescriptions, PT orders, home exercises, and work restrictions.
• Maintain EMR accuracy and patient education materials.
• Assist with lab result workflow and patient communication.
• Coordinate training with Surgery Coordinator and Office Manager.
• Provide coverage for peers as needed.
• Travel to other locations may be required.
• All other duties as assigned.
