Job summary

City Year AmeriCorps members coach and mentor students across elementary to high school levels to promote academic success, attendance, and positive behaviors. You will plan and monitor progress with teachers, providing targeted in-class support and individualized attention.

Training is provided, and you will work closely with school staff to implement engaging programs and data-driven reviews that track student progress and growth throughout the year.

Qualifications

• Be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident (Authorization to work in the U.S. is not sufficient)
• Be 17-25 by July 1, 2025
• Have a GED or high school diploma, some college experience, or college degree
• Have served no more than three terms in an AmeriCorps state or national program

Responsibilities

• Work with identified students 1:1 and in small groups
• Develop literacy and/or math skills varying learning activities by student level
• Create and implement a behavior management system for students
• Develop interpersonal skills through learning, practice, reflection and repetition
• Collaborate with teachers to collect and monitor student progress in City Year data system
• Create an engaging, safe and healthy classroom space with the teacher
• Support extended day and virtual programming before/during/after school
• Recognize and celebrate student growth in math, literacy, attendance and behavior
