Job summary

City Year AmeriCorps members coach and mentor students to achieve academic success, improve attendance, and develop positive behaviors in school communities.

You will plan and monitor student progress, work with teachers on class instruction, and provide in-class support through structured programs and small groups. Training is provided at the start of the year, with ongoing collaboration across the school team.

Qualifications

• Be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident; authorization to work in the U.S. is required.
• Be 17-25 by July 1, 2025.
• Have a GED or high school diploma, some college experience, or college degree.
• Have served no more than three terms in an AmeriCorps state or national program.

Responsibilities

• Coach and mentor elementary, middle and/or high school students to achieve academic success, improve attendance and develop positive behaviors.
• Plan and monitor individual student progress and collaborate with teachers on class instruction and in-class student support.
• Participate in 2–4 weeks of training at the start of the year and work with partner teachers and school staff each step of the way.
• Support academic coaching and interpersonal development, including small-group work and data collection in City Year’s system.
• Assist with extended day and virtual programming before, during and after school, and help run events recognizing student growth.
• Contribute to a safe, engaging classroom space in collaboration with teachers.
