Job summary

City Year AmeriCorps members coach and mentor students in elementary to high school settings, helping them achieve academic success, improve attendance, and build positive behaviors. You will plan and monitor progress, collaborating with teachers on in-class instruction and student support.

Training begins with 2–4 weeks of onboarding. Members work with teachers and school staff throughout the year to implement interventions and measure outcomes, earning AmeriCorps benefits and stipends.

Qualifications

• Be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident and eligible to work in the U.S.
• Be 17–25 by July 1, 2025
• Have a GED or high school diploma, some college experience, or college degree
• Have served no more than three AmeriCorps terms
• Agree to a background check and start by July/August 2025

Responsibilities

• Coach and mentor students 1:1 and in small groups
• Develop literacy and/or math skills with varied activities
• Create and implement behavior management for students
• Foster interpersonal skills through daily routines and reflection
• Collaborate with teachers to monitor student progress in City Year’s data system
• Create a safe, engaging classroom environment with teachers
