Job summary

City Year AmeriCorps members coach and mentor students across elementary to high school, helping them achieve academic success, attendance improvements, and positive behaviors. You’ll plan and monitor progress, and work with teachers on in-class support and student engagement.

Role includes 2–4 weeks of initial training, collaboration with teachers, and participation in district-wide school initiatives to boost student learning and wellbeing. AmeriCorps benefits and stipends are provided.

Qualifications

• 2–4 weeks of training at the beginning of the year to support you.
• Be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident; eligible to work in the U.S.
• Be 17–25 by July 1, 2025.
• Have a GED or high school diploma, some college experience, or college degree.
• Agree to and complete a background check.

Responsibilities

• Work with identified students 1:1 and in small groups.
• Develop literacy and/or math skills with varied activities by student level.
• Create and implement a behavior management system for students.
• Collaborate with teachers and team members to monitor student progress in City Year’s data system.
• Create an engaging, safe and healthy classroom space in collaboration with the teacher.
• Support extended day and virtual programming before, during and after school.
• Create, support and/or co-lead events recognizing student growth in math, literacy, attendance and behavior.
