Job summary

City Year AmeriCorps members coach and mentor students to boost academic success, attendance, and positive behaviors across elementary to high school levels. You’ll plan and monitor progress, partnering with teachers to support whole-class instruction and targeted student help.

Initial training lasts 2–4 weeks, with ongoing collaboration among teachers and staff. This entry‑level role offers AmeriCorps benefits and a structured path to community impact.

Qualifications

• No prior experience required; 2–4 weeks of training at start of year.
• Support academic coaching and interpersonal development for students.
• Work with identified students 1:1 and in small groups.
• Collaborate with teachers and staff to monitor student progress.

Responsibilities

• Coaching and mentoring elementary, middle and/or high school students to improve academic success and attendance.
• Develop literacy and/or math skills with varied activities by student level.
• Create and implement behavior management and positive classroom environments.
• Assist in in-class instruction, breakout spaces and student assistance.
