Job summary

City Year AmeriCorps members coach and mentor students to achieve academic success, improve attendance and develop positive behaviors in school, while supporting teachers and classrooms.

The program provides 2–4 weeks of training, a bi-weekly living stipend, and benefits designed to support members in their service. You’ll work with teachers and staff to monitor progress and contribute to school-wide initiatives.

Qualifications

• Be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.
• Be 17-25 by July 1, 2025.
• Have a GED or high school diploma, some college experience, or college degree.
• Have served no more than three terms in an AmeriCorps state or national program.
• Agree to and complete a background check.
• Be able to begin City Year by July/August 2025 (specific start date varies by location).

Responsibilities

• Coach and mentor students 1:1 and in small groups.
• Plan and monitor student progress, support literacy and math skills.
• Create and implement behavior management strategies.
• Collaborate with teachers to collect and review student data.
• Create a positive, engaging classroom space with school staff.
