Job summary

City Year AmeriCorps members coach and mentor students to help them achieve academic success, improve attendance, and build positive school behaviors. You will plan and monitor student progress and support teachers with in-class instruction and targeted student assistance.

Selected members receive training, a biweekly stipend, and extensive benefits through City Year and AmeriCorps, with opportunities for professional growth and community impact in partnering schools.

Qualifications

• Be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.
• Be 17-25 by July 1, 2025.
• Have a GED or high school diploma, some college experience, or college degree.
• Have served no more than three terms in an AmeriCorps state or national program.
• Agree to and complete a background check.
• Be able to begin City Year by July/August 2025 (start date varies by location).

Responsibilities

• Coach identified students 1:1 and in small groups.
• Develop literacy and/or math activities tailored to each student.
• Create and implement a behavior management system for students.
• Develop interpersonal skills through daily practice and reflection.
• Collaborate with teachers to monitor student progress and data.
• Create an engaging, safe, and healthy classroom space with teachers.
