Job summary

City Year AmeriCorps members coach and mentor students to help them earn academic success, improve attendance and develop positive behaviors. The program includes 2–4 weeks of initial training and close collaboration with teachers and school staff to support students in classrooms and during after-school activities.

Members participate in a dual focus on individual student progress and school-wide initiatives, with benefits that include health insurance, stipends, and many AmeriCorps-supported

Qualifications

• Coaching and mentoring students to achieve academic success and positive behaviors.
• 2–4 weeks of training at the start of the year is provided.
• Work with partner teachers and school staff throughout the program.

Responsibilities

• Work with identified students 1:1 and in small groups.
• Develop literacy and/or math skills with varied activities by student level.
• Create and implement a behavior management system for students.
• Develop interpersonal skills through daily learning, practice, reflection and repetition.
• Collaborate with teachers to collect, record, and monitor student progress.
• Create an engaging, safe and healthy classroom space with the teacher.
