Job summary

City Year AmeriCorps members coach and mentor students to help them achieve academic success, improve attendance, and develop positive school behaviors. You will plan and monitor individual progress, working with teachers on in-class instruction and targeted student support.

Training is provided at the start of the year, and you will collaborate with school staff to implement programs that engage students and families while supporting school-wide initiatives.

Qualifications

• Be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident
• Be 17-25 by July 1, 2025
• Have a GED or high school diploma, some college experience, or college degree
• Have served no more than three terms in an AmeriCorps state or national program
• Agree to and complete a background check
• Be able to begin City Year by July/August 2025

Responsibilities

• Coach and mentor identified students 1:1 and in small groups
• Develop literacy and math skills with varying activities by student level
• Create and implement a behavior management system for students
• Collaborate with teachers to monitor student progress and data entry
• Help create a safe, engaging classroom space with teachers
• Support extended day and after-school programs and student clubs
