Job summary

City Year AmeriCorps member is an entry-level, full-time position focused on coaching and mentoring students across elementary to high school. You’ll support students to achieve academic success, improve attendance, and build positive behaviors while collaborating with teachers and school staff.

Training is provided, with ongoing supervision and a focus on growth, service to the community, and gaining valuable educational experience through City Year’s programs and benefits.

Qualifications

• Be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.
• Be 17-25 by July 1, 2025.
• Have a GED or high school diploma, some college experience, or college degree.
• Have served no more than three terms in an AmeriCorps state or national program.
• Agree to and complete a background check.
• Be able to begin City Year by July/August 2025.

Responsibilities

• Coach and mentor students 1:1 and in small groups to support academic and social development.
• Develop literacy and/or math activities tailored to student levels and encourage assignment completion.
• Create and implement a behavior management system for students.
• Collaborate with teachers and team members to monitor and record student progress in City Year’s data system.
• Help plan engaging, safe, and inclusive classroom spaces with teachers.
• Support extended day and virtual programs, including enrichment, intervention, and clubs.
