Job summary

City Year AmeriCorps members coach and mentor students across elementary, middle and high school settings, helping them achieve academic progress and develop positive behaviors.

You will plan and monitor individual student progress, partner with teachers on instruction, and collaborate with school staff to support whole-class and after-school activities. Training is provided at the start of the year.

Qualifications

• Must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident
• Be 17-25 by July 1, 2025
• Have a GED or high school diploma, some college experience, or college degree
• Be able to begin City Year by July/August 2025 (start date varies by location)
• Agree to and complete a background check
• Be able to serve in City Year AmeriCorps program

Responsibilities

• Coach 1:1 and small groups of students to support academic progress
• Plan and monitor individual student progress and progress reviews
• Collaborate with teachers on whole-class instruction, breakout spaces and in-class student support
• Support extended day and after-school programming
• Create an engaging, safe classroom environment in partnership with teachers
• Contribute to school-wide engagement initiatives and student recognition activities
