Job summary

City Year AmeriCorps members coach and mentor students across elementary to high school, helping them achieve academic success, improve attendance, and develop positive school behaviors through targeted activities and individualized support.

You’ll plan and monitor student progress with teachers, participate in in-class instruction and after-school programming, and engage in 2–4 weeks of training at the start of the year.

Qualifications

• U.S. citizen or permanent resident; work authorization required.
• Age 17–25 by July 1, 2025.
• GED or high school diploma; some college experience or degree.
• No more than three AmeriCorps terms.

Responsibilities

• Coach and mentor students 1:1 and in small groups.
• Develop literacy and math skills with varied activities by student level.
• Create and implement behavior management strategies.
• Foster interpersonal skills through daily routines and reflection.
• Collaborate with teachers to monitor progress and document data.
• Help create an engaging, safe classroom space with teachers.
