Job summary

City Year AmeriCorps members coach and mentor students across elementary, middle and high school levels to improve academics, attendance and behavior. Training is provided; you will work closely with teachers and staff to support individualized plans and whole-class strategies.

Role focuses on literacy and math skill development, data-driven progress reviews, and creating a positive learning environment, with additional opportunities to lead after-school and virtual programming.

Qualifications

• Be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident
• Be 17-25 by July 1, 2025
• Have a GED or high school diploma, some college experience, or college degree
• Have served no more than three terms in an AmeriCorps program
• Agree to and complete a background check
• Be able to begin City Year by July/August 2025

Responsibilities

• Coach and mentor students to help them earn academic success and improve attendance
• Plan and monitor individual student progress and support teachers in class activities
• Create an engaging, safe classroom space and contribute to whole-school initiatives
• Support extended day and virtual programming, enrichment, and student clubs
• Collaborate with teachers and team members to track student progress and data
