Job summary

City Year AmeriCorps Member in the United States is an entry-level, full-time role focused on coaching and mentoring students to boost academics, attendance, and behavior. Training is provided, with ongoing collaboration with teachers and school staff to monitor progress and support learning.

The position emphasizes 1:1 and small-group support, literacy and math skill-building, and creating a positive classroom environment across elementary to high school settings.

Qualifications

• Must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident (DACA not eligible).
• Be 17–25 by July 1, 2025 and able to begin City Year by July/August 2025.
• Be willing to undergo a background check and participate in required training.

Responsibilities

• Coach and mentor students 1:1 and in small groups.
• Develop literacy and math skills with varied activities.
• Create and implement a behavior management system.
• Develop interpersonal skills through daily practice and reflection.
• Collaborate with teachers to monitor progress in City Year’s data system.
• Create an engaging, safe classroom space in collaboration with the teacher.
• Support extended day and virtual programs before, during, and after school.
