Job summary

City Year AmeriCorps member joins a nationwide team to coach and mentor students across multiple school levels. The role includes 2–4 weeks of initial training and collaboration with partner teachers to support students’ academic growth, attendance, and positive behaviors.

You will engage in literacy and math activities, help implement behavior plans, and monitor progress while contributing to school-wide initiatives and community impact.

Qualifications

• Be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident
• Be 17–25 by July 1, 2025
• Have a GED or high school diploma, some college experience, or college degree
• Have served no more than three terms in an AmeriCorps state or national program
• Agree to and complete a background check
• Be able to begin City Year by July/August 2025

Responsibilities

• Coaching and mentoring students 1:1 and in small groups
• Develop literacy and/or math skills with varied activities
• Create and implement behavior management for students
• Develop interpersonal skills through learning, practice, reflection and repetition
• Collaborate with teachers and team on student progress and data entry
• Create an engaging, safe classroom space in collaboration with the teacher
• Support extended day and virtual programming before, during and after school
• Recognize and celebrate student growth in math, literacy, attendance and behavior
