Job summary

City Year AmeriCorps member supports students through coaching and mentoring in elementary to high school settings. You will help students achieve academic success, improve attendance, and foster positive behaviors while planning and monitoring progress with teachers.

Training is provided, and you will work with partner teachers and staff daily, delivering literacy and math activities, 1:1 and small-group coaching, and contributing to a safe, engaging classroom environment and school-wide

Qualifications

• Be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident.
• Be 17–25 by July 1, 2025.
• Have a GED or high school diploma, some college experience, or college degree.
• Have served no more than three AmeriCorps terms.
• Agree to a background check.
• Be able to begin City Year by July/August 2025.

Responsibilities

• Coach and mentor identified students 1:1 and in small groups.
• Develop literacy and math activities and encourage assignment completion.
• Create and implement a behavior management system.
• Develop interpersonal skills through daily activities and reflection.
• Collect, record, and monitor student progress in City Year’s data system.
• Create a positive, engaging classroom space in collaboration with the teacher.
• Support extended day and virtual programming for enrichment and leadership growth.
