Virginia Western Community College is seeking a Student Financial Accounts Specialist to provide professional customer service regarding student accounts, payments and invoicing. The role balances funds, processes deposits, and administers the Nelnet system while ensuring privacy compliance.

The incumbent assists with financial aid disbursements, refunds, and debt-setoff processes, supporting other departments as needed within a 70-acre Roanoke campus community.

Responsibilities

• Provide professional customer service to students, families, and staff in person, phone, and written form.
• Ensure compliance with privacy and confidentiality regulations for student information.
• Balance and reconcile state, federal, and local funds received.
• Prepare daily bank deposits and the Daily Cash Settlement process.
• Administer Nelnet third-party payment plan and 1098T forms.
• Use Nelnet to re-issue refunded checks timely when undeliverable.
• Invoices for parking tickets and track status via spreadsheet.
• Collaborate with Financial Aid on state aid disbursements and refunds.
• Assist with debt setoff programs and Tax Department processes as needed.
• Assist customers with questions and direct them to appropriate contacts.
