Job summary

Books-A-Million is seeking a General Manager to oversee day-to-day operations of 2nd & Charles stores as a Manager On Duty, partnering with the management team to maximize sales and customer service. Lead store operations, training, and accountability to achieve profits while controlling expenses.

The role requires strong leadership, store-wide scheduling, security, and merchandising oversight. 45-hour weeks, open availability, and district coordination are expected.

Qualifications

• 21 years of age or older.
• High school diploma or equivalent; college degree in business-related field preferred.
• Previous management experience.
• Strong customer service skills.
• Demonstrated ability to act in a mature and conscientious manner.
• Ability to supervise a large number of associates.
• Strong decision-making, communication, and merchandising skills.
• Successful completion of all required background screenings.

Responsibilities

• Maximizes profits and customer service by leading assigned category team and operating the store in adherence to all company policies, procedures, and guidelines.
• Maintains the physical security of the store and acts as a key-holding member of management.
• Plans, organizes, and directs store activities with the assistance of other store management.
• Maintains category merchandising and cleanliness and ensures operational efficiency.
• Maintains stock levels within the monthly budget and cadencing for used categories.
• Ensures highest level of customer service and handles customer complaints to a satisfactory conclusion.
• Ensures efficient product flow within the store.
• Recruits and hires talent for the store team.
• Coaches, trains, and develops the Management staff.
• Facilitates effective communication through daily briefings and weekly/monthly meetings.
• Audits buyback to ensure policies and procedures are followed.
• Creates the store schedule to provide adequate coverage.
• Enhances store’s reputation by establishing and maintaining community relations and partnerships.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
