Job summary

Books-A-Million seeks a General Manager to oversee day-to-day operations as Manager On Duty for two stores, partnering with the management team to maximize sales and customer service. You will lead, train, and hold the store team accountable while driving profits and controlling expenses.

You will recruit and develop talent, ensure security and policy compliance, maintain merchandising standards, and strengthen community relations to enhance the store's reputation.

Qualifications

• 21 years of age or older.
• High school diploma or equivalent required, college degree in business-related field preferred.
• Previous management experience.
• Strong customer service skills.
• Demonstrated ability to act in a mature and conscientious manner.
• Ability to supervise a large number of associates.
• Strong decision-making, communication, and merchandising skills.
• Successful completion of all required background screenings.

Responsibilities

• Maximizes profits and customer service by leading the store and adhering to all company policies, procedures, and guidelines.
• Maintains the physical security of the store and acts as a key-holding manager.
• Plans, organizes, and directs store activities with other store management.
• Maintains category merchandising and cleanliness and ensures operational efficiency.
• Maintains stock levels within the monthly budget.
• Handles customer complaints to a satisfactory conclusion.
• Ensures efficient product flow within the store.
• Recruits and hires talent for the store team.
• Coaches, trains, and develops the management staff.
• Communicates through daily briefings and regular meetings.
• Audits buyback and ensures policy compliance throughout the day.
• Creates store schedules to provide adequate coverage.
• Maintains community relations and partnerships.
• Drops off bank deposits and picks up change orders as needed.
• Creates schedules and daily agendas to match business needs.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Duties may vary depending on store size or store volume.
