Job summary

The State of South Dakota's Legislative Research Council in Pierre seeks a Legislative Editor to support the legislative process through editing, proofreading, and publication of session materials. This permanent, full-time role requires discretion, accuracy, and the ability to work under tight deadlines during the session.

You will proof legislative documents, prepare session laws, serve as committee secretary for Rules Review and Code Commission, and publish the South Dakota Register, while

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree preferred in journalism, English, or political science.
  • Strong writing and proofreading skills.
  • Strong computer skills and ability to learn specialized systems.
  • Ability to communicate clearly to legislators and the public, in writing and orally.
  • Remain objective, nonpartisan, maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive work.
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and extended hours during the legislative session.

Responsibilities

  • Proof legislative documents during session.
  • Print and deliver session paperwork as needed.
  • Assist in proofing the Session Laws and Codified Laws.
  • Serve as committee secretary for Rules Review and Code Commission.
  • Compile and publish the South Dakota Register.
  • Proof and update Administrative Rules.
  • Prepare and send LRC style and form rules packets to agencies.
  • Edit and format all office publications.
  • Other duties as assigned.
