Job summary

The Legislative Research Council in Pierre, SD seeks a Legislative Editor for a permanent, full-time role. The editor will proof legislative documents during session, print and deliver session paperwork, and assist in proofing the yearly Session Laws and Codified Laws.

The ideal candidate will have strong writing and proofreading skills, excellent communication, and the ability to work under tight deadlines during the legislative session.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in journalism, English, or political science preferred.
• Strong writing and proofreading skills.
• Strong computer skills and ability to learn specialized systems.
• Ability to communicate clearly to legislators and the public, both orally and in writing.
• Maintain objectivity, confidentiality, and nonpartisan approach during legislative matters.
• Ability to meet tight deadlines and extended hours during the legislative session.

Responsibilities

• Proof legislative documents during session.
• Print and deliver all necessary session paperwork.
• Assist in proofing the yearly Session Laws and Codified Laws.
• Serve as committee secretary for the Rules Review and Code Commission Committees.
• Compile and publish the South Dakota Register.
• Proof and update Administrative Rules.
• Compile and send LRC style and form rules packets to agencies.
• Edit and format all office publications.
• Other duties as assigned.
