Job summary

Rivian is seeking a Staff Field Service Engineer to provide hands-on technical support for vehicle inspections, warranty issues, and governance-related investigations. You will travel the East Coast up to 70% and work at the intersection of field service, diagnostics, engineering, and Legal to document findings and determine next steps.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Automotive Engineering, or related technical field; equivalent experience considered.
• 6 years of professional field service experience in automotive or related fields.
• Hands-on experience diagnosing and troubleshooting EVs and complex vehicle systems.
• Experience conducting vehicle inspections and writing technical reports.
• Strong communication skills to explain technical information to attorneys, engineers, service teams, and customers.
• Ability to travel and work independently in a field environment.

Responsibilities

• Conduct and coordinate vehicle inspections in support of warranty, product liability, and incident related matters.
• Perform structured vehicle evaluations including visual inspections, diagnostic scans, and functional testing.
• Document inspection findings with notes, photos, videos, and reports.
• Collaborate with Legal, outside counsel, Service, Quality, Engineering and other stakeholders to define inspection scope and communicate findings.
• Develop rapid diagnostic plans to minimize customer downtime and provide technical solutions.
• Escalate safety or technical issues for immediate response.
• Provide clear technical explanations to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Help improve inspection protocols, training materials, workflows, and cross-functional processes.
• Travel to service centers, vehicle locations, inspection sites as needed.
