Job summary

Rivian is seeking a Field Service Engineer to provide hands-on technical support for vehicle inspections, warranty matters, product concerns, and high-priority investigations. This field-oriented role requires independent evaluation of complex vehicle concerns and clear communication with a wide range of stakeholders.

You will travel approximately 70% of the time across the East Coast, report to the Sr. Manager, Field Service Engineering, and help define inspection scopes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Automotive Engineering or related field.
• 6 years in automotive field service, vehicle diagnostics, or related area.
• Hands-on experience diagnosing and troubleshooting EVs and complex vehicle systems.
• Experience conducting vehicle inspections and writing clear technical reports.
• Strong communication skills for attorneys, engineers, service teams, and customers.
• Ability to travel and work independently in a field environment.
• Strong judgment, attention to detail, and safe work practices.
• Collaborate effectively in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.

Responsibilities

• Conduct and coordinate vehicle inspections in support of warranty, product liability, and incident matters.
• Perform structured vehicle evaluations including diagnostics, testing, and review of service data.
• Document inspection findings with notes, photos, videos, and reports.
• Communicate technical findings to Legal, service, engineering and other stakeholders.
• Develop rapid diagnostic plans for escalated cases to maximize uptime.
• Escalate safety or technical issues when needed and coordinate response.
• Explain technical concepts clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Help improve inspection protocols, training, workflows and cross-functional processes.
• Travel to service centers, vehicle locations, inspection sites and other field locations.
