Job summary

Affirm is hiring a Staff Engineer to lead initiatives on the Fraud Decisioning team, building tools and systems to enhance fraud-fighting capabilities. You will work with cross-functional teams and leverage data-driven decisions to improve risk evaluation at key user journey points.

You’ll plan large cross-functional initiatives, design clear, deployable architectures, mentor engineers, and ensure stakeholder needs are reflected while hiring decisions are informed by technical evaluations.

Qualifications

• 6–10+ years of software engineering with leadership responsibilities.
• Experience architecting, building, launching, coding and maintaining complex systems.
• Passion for cross-functional collaboration with Product, ML, Analytics and Business teams.
• Technical leadership and team building skills for software development best practices.
• Ability to synthesize complex requirements into sound designs.
• System-wide thinking to break down business and product needs into modules.
• Equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field.

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute large, cross-functional initiatives with definition, specs, delivery and maintenance.
• Write simple, elegant, debuggable designs and high-quality code.
• Review others’ work to maintain high quality across teams.
• Lead and mentor engineers, providing context and ownership.
• Incorporate stakeholder needs and align voices to reach consensus.
• Conduct technical and soft-skill evaluations to inform hiring decisions.
