Job summary

Affirm is seeking a Staff Engineer to lead initiatives on the Fraud Decisioning team. You will build tools that empower fraud fighting, collaborate with Product, ML, Analytics and Business teams, and guide cross-functional projects from concept to deployment.

You will mentor engineers, drive high-quality designs, and help shape hiring and technical standards in a remote-first environment with competitive pay.

Qualifications

• 6-10+ years of experience as a software engineer with leadership responsibilities.
• Experience architecting, building, launching, coding and maintaining complex systems.
• Passion for cross-functional collaboration with Product, ML, Analytics and Business teams.
• Technical leader and team builder who mentors others.
• Ability to translate business/product requirements into scalable designs.

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute large cross-functional initiatives from definition to maintenance.
• Write clean, well-structured code and design simple, robust systems.
• Review others' work to maintain high quality standards.
• Lead and mentor engineers to grow and own their components.
• Incorporate stakeholder needs and advocate for ideas across teams.
• Contribute to interview content and evaluate technical skills during hiring.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in a related field

6-10+ years of software engineering experience with leadership

Architecting and maintaining complex systems

Mentoring junior engineers

Cross-functional collaboration with Product, ML, Analytics and Business teams

Technical leadership and team building

Ability to synthesize complex requirements into system designs
