Job summary

Affirm is seeking a Staff Engineer to lead the Fraud Decisioning team, building tools and systems that power fraud fighting while collaborating with Product, ML, Analytics and Business teams. You’ll plan cross-functional initiatives, write high-quality code, mentor engineers, review work, and influence hiring decisions to raise the bar on design and execution.

This remote-first role emphasizes scalable architecture, strong ownership, and collaboration across diverse teams.

Qualifications

• 6-10+ years of software engineering experience with leadership responsibilities.
• Architecting, building, launching, coding and maintaining complex systems.
• Experience collaborating with Product, ML, Analytics, and Business teams.
• Proven ability to mentor engineers and drive high-quality designs.

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute large cross-functional initiatives including project definition, technical specs, delivery, monitoring, and maintenance.
• Write simple, well-structured code and designs with clear error paths.
• Review others’ work to maintain high quality standards across teams.
• Lead and mentor engineers, providing context and ownership.
• Incorporate stakeholder needs and advocate for ideas to achieve a shared understanding.
• Contribute to interview processes by evaluating both technical content and candidates.
