Coinbase, Inc. is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for the FCM team to own the design and architecture of the core derivatives platform, spanning market data, order routing, settlement, and risk.

This role will drive the next-gen replatforming, reduce legacy dependencies, and set engineering standards while mentoring team members to elevate code quality and architecture across the system.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of backend engineering experience in production systems.
• Direct FCM or derivatives experience in futures lifecycle.
• Proficiency in a modern backend language (Go preferred; Java).
• Experience in regulated financial environments emphasizing correctness and auditability.
• End-to-end delivery including replatforming or migration of legacy systems.
• Responsible use of AI with human oversight to improve workflows.

Responsibilities

• Own design and architecture across the FCM core from market data to settlement and risk.
• Lead the next-gen replatforming while reducing legacy dependencies.
• Set technical standards and review code to ensure quality and reliability.
• Collaborate across pods and with Product, Risk, Ops, Finance, and Compliance to deliver auditable systems.
• Mentor engineers to raise code quality and architectural rigor.
