Job summary

Coinbase is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for the FCM team to own design across the FCM core and drive the next-gen replatforming of a regulated trading platform. You will work hands-on and help set technical standards while partnering across product, risk, and ops to deliver auditable systems.

You’ll mentor engineers, improve architecture, and contribute to a startup-like ownership with the reach of Coinbase, while embracing a remote-first culture and quarterly in-person surges.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of backend engineering experience with production-grade distributed systems.
• Direct FCM or derivatives experience, owning parts of the futures lifecycle.
• Proficiency in a modern backend language (Go preferred; Java or similar) and event-driven architectures.
• Experience in regulated finance where auditability and reliability matter.
• Track record delivering end-to-end projects, including replatforming and modernization.
• Responsible use of AI with human oversight to improve workflows.

Responsibilities

• Own design and architecture across the FCM core from data to settlement and risk.
• Drive next-gen replatforming and reduce legacy vendor dependencies.
• Set technical standards through reviews and reduce critical debt.
• Collaborate across pods and functions to deliver auditable systems.
• Mentor engineers and elevate code quality and architectural rigor.
