Job summary

Coinbase is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for the FCM team to own the design of the FCM core—from market data through settlement and risk—as part of a major replatforming initiative.

You will drive the next-gen platform, reduce legacy dependencies, and raise reliability while coding hands-on. This role collaborates with Product, Risk, Ops, Finance, and Compliance to deliver auditable, scalable systems.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of backend engineering experience with ownership of complex distributed systems.
• Direct FCM or derivatives experience in one or more parts of the futures lifecycle.
• Deep proficiency in a modern backend language (Go preferred; Java or similar).
• Experience in a regulated financial environment with auditability and reliability.
• End-to-end ownership of projects, including replatforming legacy systems while coding hands-on.
• Responsible use of AI with human oversight to improve workflows.

Responsibilities

• Own design and architecture across the FCM core from data to settlement and risk.
• Drive the next-gen replatforming and reduce legacy dependencies while boosting stability.
• Set technical bar via code reviews and standards, addressing critical debt.
• Collaborate with pods and cross-functional teams to deliver auditable systems.
• Mentor engineers and elevate code quality and architectural rigor.
