Job summary

Coinbase is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for the FCM team to own the design and architecture across the core lifecycle from market data to settlement and risk. This role will drive the next-gen replatforming, reduce legacy dependencies, and set high standards for code quality and architectural rigor.

Ideal candidates have 8+ years in backend engineering, direct FCM or derivatives experience, and strong experience in a regulated financial environment.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of backend engineering experience in production-grade distributed systems.
• Direct FCM or derivatives experience with parts of the futures lifecycle.
• Proficiency in a modern backend language with event-driven, high-availability architectures.
• Experience in regulated financial environments emphasizing auditability and reliability.
• Track record delivering end-to-end architecture and migration projects.

Responsibilities

• Own design and architecture across the FCM core from market data to settlement and risk.
• Lead next-gen replatforming to reduce legacy dependencies and improve stability.
• Set technical standards through reviews and governance, reducing debt.
• Collaborate across pods and with Product, Risk, Ops, Finance, and Compliance.
• Mentor engineers to elevate code quality and architectural rigor.
