Job summary

Wake County Public School System is seeking an Instructional Assistant-Special Education to support students with IEPs across elementary, middle, or high school settings. Candidates should have a high school diploma or GED, with Title I schooling options requiring additional coursework or experience.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED required.
For TITLE I schools: six semester hours in early childhood education or two years of work experience in an early childhood setting.
Maintain CPI certification; CPI training provided through WCPSS.
CPR and First Aid certification preferred.
Experience working with or assisting individuals with special needs preferred.

Responsibilities

Assist teachers with coordinating instructional programs for special education students and ensure a safe, learning-focused environment.
Support strategies related to behavior intervention plans and classroom routines.
Plan, organize, and prepare materials; ensure resources are available for lessons.
Demonstrate professional skills to support student achievement and school programs.
Maintain confidentiality and document records as required.
Assist with student transitions between classes and provide health-related support when needed.
