Job summary

Wake County Public School System is seeking an Instructional Assistant-Special Education to support students with IEPs across elementary, middle, or high school settings. The role focuses on assisting teachers with instructional delivery, managing materials, and maintaining a safe, inclusive learning environment.

The position requires familiarity with assistive technology, strong confidentiality, and the ability to work in a team.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Six semester hours in early childhood education or two years of related work experience for ESSA Title I schools.
• Maintain CPI certification with renewal requirements; CPI training provided by WCPSS if needed.
• CPR and First Aid certification is preferred.
• Experience with or assisting individuals with special needs is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Assist teachers in coordinating instructional programs for students with IEPs.
• Support implementation of behavioral intervention plans and classroom strategies.
• Prepare materials, organize activities, and ensure classroom resources are available.
• Maintain confidentiality of student information in line with FERPA and other laws.
• Provide in-class support and promote student independence and safety; assist with health care needs as required.
• Coordinate student transitions between classes and assist with assistive technology as needed.
