Job summary

Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago is seeking a Patient Service representative for the Uptown location. The role focuses on pre-registration, full patient registration, and eligibility verification in a fast-paced pediatric setting.

You will work with families, physicians, and staff to ensure smooth check-in and payments, using Epic systems. The position requires a high school diploma (some college preferred) and strong customer service, communication, and multitasking

Qualifications

• High school diploma required; some college preferred.
• Knowledge of medical terminology, third-party billing, and managed care requirements strongly preferred.
• Some knowledge of electronic medical record (EMR).
• Proficient in Microsoft Word; Outlook and other MS Office skills preferred.
• Strong customer service and interpersonal skills with pediatric patients and families; excellent communication/listening skills.
• Ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to manage stressful situations appropriately.

Responsibilities

• Completes pre-registration and full registration for families as needed.
• Ensures eligibility information is accurate.
• Obtain patient/family consents for care, HIPAA, and mandatory forms; enter into Epic.
• Queries for MyChart and Care Everywhere; use Epiccare Link as appropriate.
• Check referrals for visit suitability and assist families with referrals for same-day service.
• Inform and collect payments (estimates, co-pays, balances) via appropriate systems.
• Make copies of insurance cards as needed.
• Provide intake forms and instructions; print labels for clinical use.
• Provide ID bands to patients.
• Inform patients of wait times or delays in service.
• Schedule appointments (new, returning, same-day, ancillary).
• May enter patient information into additional electronic systems.
• Adhere to Power All principles; maintain confidentiality and HIPAA compliance.
• Complete checkout procedures and prepare required forms for distribution.
• Coordinate with Patient Service Representative staff and department teams.
• Other duties as assigned; specific to area functions (Outpatient Lab, Medical Imaging, Outpatient Surgery).
