Job summary

Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago seeks a Patient Service Representative to support pre-registration and registration for pediatric patients and families.

You will verify eligibility, obtain consents, and enter data into Epic, MyChart, and Care Everywhere while maintaining HIPAA compliance. You will assist with referrals, collect payments, and coordinate scheduling for new, returning, and same-day visits in a high-volume, customer-centric environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required; some college preferred.
• Some knowledge of medical terminology, third party billing, and managed care requirements strongly preferred.
• Some knowledge of electronic medical record (EMR).
• Proficient in Microsoft Word applications such as Outlook; other computer skills preferred.
• Demonstrates a high level of customer service and interpersonal skills to work with pediatric patients, families, physicians, nursing and other staff.
• Problem solving skills and ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to manage stressful situations appropriately.

Responsibilities

• Completes pre-registration and full registration for families as needed.
• Ensures eligibility information is accurate.
• Obtain patient/family consents for care, HIPAA, and required forms; enter into Epic.
• Query MyChart and Care Everywhere; use EpicCare Link as appropriate.
• Check referrals for visits and assist families with same-day services when possible.
• Inform and collect payments (estimates, copays, balances) via CCf and HealthFusion where applicable.
• Make copies of insurance cards and provide intake forms and instructions.
• Print labels and documents for scanning; provide ID bands to patients.
• Communicate wait times or delays; schedule appointments (new, return, same-day, ancillary).
• Enter patient information in additional electronic systems as needed.
• Maintain confidentiality and HIPAA compliance; follow organizational power all principles.
• Coordinate with staff to streamline check-in and check-out procedures.
• Other duties as assigned; follow area-specific functions (lab, imaging, outpatient surgery).
