Job summary

E Source, a research and analytics firm focused on the utility sector, seeks a Senior Transmission Planning Consultant to lead advanced transmission studies for electric utilities, ISOs/RTOs, and cooperatives, delivering actionable results and guiding client objectives.

You will oversee methodologies, mentor junior staff, and contribute to business development while working in a fully remote setting with limited travel.

Qualifications

• BS in electrical engineering; MS/PhD with years of experience in transmission planning or consulting.
• Deep knowledge of transmission system planning processes and industry practices.
• Experience with transient stability, short-circuit, voltage, production costing, and interconnection analysis.
• Strong skills with PSS/E are required.
• Familiarity with NERC, FERC, and ISO/RTO processes (PJM, ERCOT, etc.).
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage transmission planning studies, including stability, power flow, reliability, short-circuit, and congestion management analyses.
• Serve as the primary client contact, driving project scope, methodologies, and deliverables.
• Provide technical oversight, quality assurance, and guidance to junior engineers and consultants.
• Prepare and present detailed technical reports documenting assumptions, methodologies, and results.
• Contribute to business development by supporting proposals, client meetings, and thought leadership.
• Collaborate with senior leadership to shape service offerings and enhance technical capabilities.
• Mentor and train less experienced staff, fostering knowledge transfer and professional development.
