Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a Lead System Protection Engineer to join our Grid Services team in a hybrid arrangement (3 days in office / 2 remote). You will lead protection philosophy development, settings, and system studies for transmission lines, transformers, buses, and capacitor banks.

Coordinate P&C design with substation teams and review vendor relay software tools. The role requires a ABET‑accredited Electrical Engineering degree and 10+ years in protection engineering, with strong skills

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET‑accredited program (or equivalent).
• 10 or more years of experience in system protection engineering for transmission and/or substation projects.
• Hands‑on responsibility for relay settings and protection studies.
• Strong background in protection and relay logic.
• Experience with CAPE and/or ASPEN or equivalent protection analysis tools.
• Familiarity with IEEE, ANSI, and NERC/PRC standards.

Responsibilities

• Lead development and application of protection philosophies and settings for transmission lines, transformers, buses, and capacitor/reactor banks.
• Perform system protection studies including short‑circuit analysis and relay coordination.
• Configure and troubleshoot microprocessor‑based protective relays using vendor software.
• Manage relay records and configuration data in Powerbase or similar databases.
• Support commissioning and field energization, including reviewing test plans and RFIs.
• Develop P&C design documents and markups for one‑line and schematic drawings.
