Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a Lead System Protection Engineer to join the Grid Services team in delivering protection and control for high‑voltage transmission and substation projects.

The role involves developing protection philosophies, performing system protection studies, and configuring relays using industry tools, with a strong emphasis on quality, safety, and client standards. Hybrid work options and relocation support are provided.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from ABET-accredited program (or equivalent).
• 10+ years of experience in system protection engineering for transmission/substation projects.
• Strong background in protection philosophies and relay logic.
• Experience with CAPE/ASPEN or equivalent protection analysis tools.
• Experience with relay software like SEL AcSELerator, EnerVista, and other OEM tools.

Responsibilities

• Lead development and application of protection philosophies and settings for transmission lines, transformers, buses, breakers, and capacitor/reactor banks.
• Perform short‑circuit analysis, relay coordination, and time‑current curve development.
• Configure, set, and troubleshoot microprocessor‑based protective relays using vendor software (SEL AcSELerator, EnerVista).
• Use Powerbase to manage relay records, settings, and configuration data; ensure alignment with client standards and change-management processes.
• Support event analysis, misoperation investigations, and coordination with substation design teams on P&C drawings.
