Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a Senior System Protection Engineer to join our Grid Services team. The role focuses on protection philosophies, relay settings, and power system studies, with a secondary role in supporting substation P&C design for HV transmission projects.

Responsibilities include protection studies, relay coordination, and configuring microprocessor relays. Hybrid work arrangement with relocation support varies by location, and relocation is generous where applicable.

Qualifications

• ABET‑accredited Electrical Engineering degree or equivalent.
• 7+ years in system protection engineering for transmission/substation projects.
• Experience with relay settings and protection studies.
• Familiarity with CAPE/ASPEN or equivalent tools.
• Proficiency with at least some relay software (SEL AcSELerator, EnerVista).

Responsibilities

• Lead development and application of protection philosophies and settings for transmission lines, transformers, buses, and capacitor banks.
• Perform short‑circuit analysis, relay coordination, and time‑current studies.
• Configure and troubleshoot microprocessor relays using vendor software.
• Manage relay records and protection data in Powerbase or similar databases.
• Support protection related field commissioning, RFIs, and issue resolution.
