Job summary
Sargent & Lundy seeks a Lead System Protection Engineer to join our Grid Services team. You will lead protection philosophy development, relay settings, and protective relays across transmission and substation projects, while reviewing P&C designs and coordinating with substation teams.
Responsibilities include system protection studies, event analysis, and supporting field commissioning. This hybrid role offers relocation options and collaboration with utility clients and equipment
Qualifications
- ABET‑accredited Electrical Engineering degree or equivalent.
- 10+ years in system protection engineering for transmission/substation projects.
- Experience with relay settings, protection studies, and fault analysis.
- Experience with CAPE/ASPEN or equivalent tools.
- Familiarity with P&C drawings and protection schemes.
- Strong communication with utility clients and field teams.
Responsibilities
- Lead development and application of protection philosophies and settings for transmission lines, transformers, buses, and capacitors/reactors.
- Perform short‑circuit analysis and relay coordination.
- Configure and troubleshoot microprocessor relays using vendor software.
- Manage relay records and protection data in databases like Powerbase.
- Support event analysis, misoperation investigations, and commissioning activities.
- Review and develop P&C design documents in coordination with substation teams.
