Job summary

Sargent & Lundy seeks a Senior System Protection Engineer to lead protection philosophies, settings, and studies for HV transmission and substation projects. The role includes reviewing P&C designs, configuring relays, and supporting commissioning with a hybrid in‑office/remote schedule.

Ideal candidates bring ABET‑accredited Electrical Engineering degrees and 7+ years of protection experience, with proficiency in CAPE/ASPEN and relay software such as SEL AcSELerator and EnerVista.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET‑accredited program (or equivalent).
• 7+ years of experience in system protection engineering for transmission and/or substation projects.
• Strong background in relay logic and protection philosophies (line, transformer, bus, etc.).
• Experience with CAPE and/or ASPEN protection analysis tools.
• Familiarity with Powerbase or similar relay/asset databases.
• Experience reviewing P&C drawings (one-lines, schematics, wiring diagrams).
• Knowledge of IEEE, ANSI, and NERC/PRC standards.

Responsibilities

• Lead development and application of protection philosophies and settings for transmission lines, transformers, buses, and capacitor banks.
• Perform short‑circuit analysis, relay coordination, and time‑current curve development.
• Configure and troubleshoot microprocessor‑based protective relays using vendor software.
• Support P&C design documents including one‑lines and wiring diagrams.
• Assist commissioning and field energization through review of test plans and RFIs.
