Sargent & Lundy in the United States (Fort Worth, TX) is seeking a Senior System Protection Engineer to join our Grid Services team. You will lead protection philosophies, settings, and studies for transmission lines, transformers, buses, and other substation assets, and support P&C design for HV projects.

The role requires ABET‑accredited electrical engineering, 7+ years of protection experience, and proficiency with CAPE/ASPEN and vendor relay software.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET‑accredited program.
• 7+ years of experience in system protection engineering for transmission and/or substation projects.
• Hands‑on responsibility for relay settings and protection studies.
• Experience with CAPE/ASPEN or equivalent protection analysis tools.
• Proficiency with RELAY software tools (SEL AcSELerator, EnerVista, etc.).
• Experience managing settings data in relay databases (Powerbase or similar).
• Ability to read and interpret P&C drawings: one‑lines, three‑lines, schematics, wiring and logic diagrams.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development and application of protection philosophies and settings for transmission lines, transformers, buses, breakers, and capacitor/reactor banks.
• Perform system protection studies including short‑circuit analysis, relay coordination, and time‑current curve development.
• Configure, set, and troubleshoot microprocessor‑based protective relays using vendor software.
• Manage relay records and configuration data using Powerbase or similar databases.
• Support event analysis, RFIs, and field questions related to protection and control.
• Develop and review P&C design documents in coordination with substation design teams; ensure compliance with standards.
