Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a Lead System Protection Engineer to join our Grid Services team. The role focuses on protection philosophies, relay settings, and power system studies for transmission and substation projects, with involvement in P&C design and field support.

The ideal candidate will have 10+ years in system protection, experience with CAPE/ASPEN and vendor tools, and strong communication skills to liaise with utility clients and project teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• 10+ years in system protection for transmission/substation projects.
• Experience with relay settings, protection studies, and fault analysis.
• Proficiency with protection analysis tools (CAPE/ASPEN).
• Familiarity with ENG and IEEE/ANSI/NERC standards.
• Strong written and verbal communication with clients and teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead development of protection philosophies and settings for transmission, transformers, buses, and capacitor banks.
• Perform short-circuit studies, relay coordination, and time-current curves.
• Configure and troubleshoot microprocessor relays using vendor software.
• Manage relay records and protection data in Powerbase or similar databases.
• Support protection event analysis and misoperation investigations.
• Review P&C design documents with substation teams and coordinate with designers.
